International Exchange Program for Chinese Junior Scholars : Forging ahead, boldly scaling the peak of pancreatic science
In June 2024, the International Exchange Program for Chinese Junior Scholars was officially launched at the 2024 Academic Meeting of the Chinese Association of Pancreatology (CAP). The establishment of this program aims to provide a broad international academic exchange platform for outstanding young talents in the field of pancreatic diseases in China. Each year, this program will sponsor outstanding young Chinese scholars to participate in international academic events hosted by foreign academic organizations such as the American Pancreatic Association (APA), the Japan Pancreas Society (JPS), and the European Pancreatic Club (EPC). After recommendation, selection, and approval by the Chinese Association of Pancreatology (CAP), eight young doctors will participate in the 55th Annual Meeting of the American Pancreatic Association (APA) this December. The launch of the International Exchange Program for Chinese Junior Scholars is a significant move by the Chinese Association of Pancreatology (CAP) to actively promote international exchange and cooperation, and cultivate world-class pancreatic disease experts. Since its establishment in 2022, the association has made remarkable progress in international exchanges within just two years. It has signed a cooperation agreement with the American Pancreatic Association (APA), jointly organized international conferences, organized delegations to participate in conferences and exchanges in the United States, and conducted multiple mutual visits between Chinese and American scholars, among other international academic exchange activities. These efforts have continuously enhanced the international status of the association. The implementation of the International Exchange Program for Chinese Junior Scholars will undoubtedly accelerate the internationalization process of Chinese pancreatic disease research, making China's voice louder on the world academic stage. We look forward to the outstanding achievements of young Chinese scholars on the international stage, contributing Chinese strength to the advancement of global pancreatic medicine.
Academician Zhao Yupei Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Pancreatic Association——The 2024 Annual Meeting of the American Pancreatic Association Jointly Held with China, Japan, and the International Association of Pancreatology
From December 9 to 12, 2024, the 55th Annual Meeting of the American Pancreatic Association (APA) was successfully held in Maui, Hawaii, USA. President Zhao Yupei of the Chinese Association of Pancreatology (CAP) led a delegation of nearly 200 Chinese experts to attend the conference. As a significant academic conference in the field of pancreatic diseases worldwide, this event marked the first time that it was jointly organized by the APA, the Japan Pancreas Society (JPS), the CAP, and the International Association of Pancreatology (IAP), signifying a new and important step forward for CAP in promoting global exchange and cooperation. During the meeting, President Zhao Yupei was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the APA, making him the first Chinese scholar to receive this prestigious honor. For many years, it has provided a high-level platform for researchers, clinicians, and medical professionals worldwide to exchange ideas, playing a positive role in promoting cooperation among different countries and regions in the field of pancreatic diseases and advancing the development of pancreatology. To further implement the strategic plan outlined in the "CAP-APA Cooperation Memorandum," Academician Zhao Yupei led a delegation to attend this annual meeting. Through the joint efforts of multiple parties, the joint conference achieved an unprecedented scale, attracting numerous top scholars and authoritative institutions from around the world. Nearly 200 Chinese scholars attended the meeting, and over 260 academic abstracts were submitted, both setting new records. Besides participating in poster presentations, several Chinese scholars also served as session chairs or delivered oral reports, contributing Chinese wisdom to the development of pancreatology. At the awards dinner on December 10th, Professor Ashok Saluja, the Secretary-General of the APA, presented the "Lifetime Achievement Award" to President Zhao Yupei in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of pancreatic diseases, particularly his exceptional contributions to promoting global cooperation in this area. This is the first time in APA's history that this highest honor has been awarded to a Chinese scholar, not only acknowledging President Zhao Yupei's accomplishments but also affirming the efforts of CAP and all Chinese scholars dedicated to advancing the discipline. President Zhao Yupei Receives APA Lifetime Achievement Award During the conference, the leaders of CAP, APA, JPS, and IAP held discussions on topics such as "further promoting research cooperation in the field of pancreatic diseases" and "actively facilitating the exchange and training of young scholars," creating a favorable cooperative atmosphere for the hosting of the 2nd CAP Academic Conference in 2025. The prestigious award received by Academician Zhao Yupei mark another important milestone in the development of CAP, accumulating valuable experience for CAP to further participate in major international events in the field of pancreatic diseases. In the future, CAP will continue to promote technological innovation and international exchanges and cooperation among academic organizations in the field of pancreatic diseases, playing a more active and leading role in driving the global development of this field.
The 2024 Suzhou-Shanghai Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery Academic Conference was held and Academician Zhao Yupei delivered a speech
On October 12, 2024, the Suzhou-Shanghai Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery Academic Conference was held at Jurong People's Hospital in Jurong City, Jiangsu Province. More than 60 experts in hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery discussed the cutting-edge technologies and challenges faced in cancer management. Academician Zhao Yupei, President of the Chinese Medical Association, President of the Chinese Society of Pancreatic Diseases, and Honorary President of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. In his speech, he clarified the main theme and objectives of the conference was to discuss the principles of medical ethics and clinical practice. Integrating deep humanistic care and noble moral responsibility into clinical practice was also emphasized in his speech. Academician Dou Kefeng, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), professor of hepatobiliary surgery in Xijing Hospital of the Air Force Military Medical University, Professor Quan Zhiwei, standing member of the Branch of Surgery of the Chinese Medical Association, and Jiang Kuirong, vice president of Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. The experts at the meeting discussed many topics including organ transplantation, minimally invasive surgery, cancer recurrence prevention and management for hepatic cancer, pancreatic cancer and gallbladder cancer. The consensus achieved in this conference was that standardized treatment and medical humanistic care was the key point to improve the survival and life quality for patients.
Chinese Association of Pancreatology Leads Delegation to the 54th Annual Meeting of the American Pancreatic Association
From November 15 to 18, 2023, the 54th American Pancreatic Association (APA) Annual Meeting took place in San Diego, California.A delegation of Chinese scholars, led by Academician Yupei Zhao, President of the Chinese Association of Pancreatology (CAP) participated in this significant event. Before the meeting, 11 Chinese scholars were invited to join the "Abstract Review Committee." Following their review, 247 abstracts from Chinese scholars were accepted, accounting for 55.4% of all abstracts, setting a historic record by surpassing American scholars' submissions for the first time. Of these, six abstracts were invited for oral presentations, and 14 were recognized as outstanding posters. The conference showcased the excellent spirit of Chinese research teams, with six experts chairing sessions and enhancing the international academic influence of Chinese scholars. Additionally, six young researchers were awarded the "Young Investigator Travel Award", acknowledging their significant contributions. This APA Annual Meeting highlighted key research trends and future directions in the field of pancreatology. Through reports, discussions, and exchanges with global experts, Chinese scholars deepened their understanding of related fields, expanded their academic horizons, and identified new research directions. They also engaged in extensive interactions with international peers, strengthening existing relationships and forming new collaborations. Following the CAP-APA memorandum of understanding, this event was the first major international academic activity hosted by the APA. Discussions between President Yupei Zhao, Vice President Wenming Wu of CAP, Secretary-General Ashok Saluja, President Min Li of APA and key members of both associations led to a consensus on deepening cooperation in academic exchange, high quality platform development, international collaboration, and youth talent cultivation. This participation marked CAP's first delegation visit since its establishment, promoting exchange with global experts, enhancing understanding of cutting-edge achievements, expanding academic influence, and securing more academic resources. Most importantly, it further detailed the memorandum's implementation, setting specific goals and plans for inter-societal cooperation to advance the field of pancreatology in China and improve patient outcomes.
